November/December 2001
Greetings!! I hope the holiday
season has kicked off well for you and your families.
My Thanksgiving was great. Despite already being in
diet phase for the Ironman, I was able to enjoy a
perfect Thanksgiving meal with my wife and
her family. With the exception of my famous sweet
potato pie, everything I made was quite healthy. And,
the addition of the pie didn't matter, because I am
way ahead of schedule in my diet. For some reason,
although, I tend to stay fairly lean year-round, making
getting in shape not as tough, I am leaner this year
this far out than I have ever been! So, a little pie
and homemade cornbread stuffing sure didn't hurt my
physique.
Given that I am so way ahead
in conditioning, thus far the contest prep has been
enjoyable and I plan to post weekly photos quite soon
as a "Countdown
for the Ironman" so that you can
track my preparation with me.
With Christmas just around
the corner, despite contest dieting, I can't tell
you how much I am looking forward to it this year,
as well as New Year's, because I have so much upon
which to reflect positively from the year 2001. So,
rather than a making a list of what I want
from Santa, I have list of what I have to be thankful
for in my life:
- Meeting and marrying my
wife, Annamarie.
- Being an IFBB
Pro and doing what I love for a living.
- Signing a contract with
Joe
Weider and having the pleasure of working with
him all the members of his company.
- Having the love and support
of my friends and family in all my endeavors
- Fans of the sport, because
without devoted fans of bodybuilding, there would
be no sport like the one we have
today!
And, on that note, to everyone
whom I had the opportunity to meet at the Olympia,
many thanks for coming by to say hello at the
ABB or Weider booth!
Please stay tuned on the site
for the countdown photos.
I guarantee you won't be dissapointed.
In fact, you might be even a bit surprised with what
I am bringing to the table this year. Amazing things
happen when you have a little rest and happiness in
your life. Until this point, I have NEVER been able
to be my best. The Garrett Downing you've seen on
stage was never trained nor rested to full potential.
But, this season, armed with the most important resource
in the sport of bodybuilding - that is R-E-S-T,
I will be able to see my physique to its potential
as opposed to the underfed, underrested and overtrained
body of the past! Certainly, I have the support of
my Weider Contract to thank for this, because it's
allowed me the financial freedom to not work such
a crazy schedule. Look out!

Have a HEALTHY &
HAPPY HOLIDAY! - Garrett
