Since making his pro debut at the 2000 IFBB Toronto
Pro show, Garrett has competed in over 13 IFBB pro bodybuilding
shows with placings to include the top 6. In 2002 Garrett
sustained a significant hamstring injury, requiring
extensive surgery and rehab. He successfully made his
comeback at the 2004 Orlando Pro Show and the Night
of Champions. Proving that he could recover from something
that was thought to be career ending, Garrett has fully
resumed his pro competitive career, and will be hitting
the stage again this June at the 2005 IFBB Toronto Pro
Cup.
Whether attending to an elderly
hospital patient, counseling a wayward teen, or displaying
his intense package of muscularity, IFBB Professional
Bodybuilder Garrett Downing is a class act found
in a sport of iron and sweat.
Originally from New York, Garrett
has trained as a bodybuilder or powerlifter since college.
A Desert Storm Veteran, his background includes five
years’ service in the United States Marine Corps.
Applying his military organization
and discipline to bodybuilding training and contest
preparation, Garrett’s daily routine can include a minimum
of three hours of weight training and cardiovascular
training per day, together with a strict
nutritional regime—all of which is juggled into
a full-time career and appearance schedule!
When he isn’t
training himself or others, Garrett is dedicated
to helping both young people and the elderly. Garrett
has worked as a specialist on a Senior Behavioral Health
team for the University of California, San Diego Medical
Center and was the program director of a group home
for troubled youths. He currently specializes
in physical fitness training programs for kids and pre-teens.
Garrett’s
affinity for encouraging young people extends into volunteer
roles with the Governor’s Fitness Council and the Inner
City Games, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s acclaimed program
that targets underprivileged high school students to
instill the value of education and sports. In addition
to inspiring adolescents, Garrett’s gentle personality
and awe-inspiring physique have a tremendous effect
on younger children at hospitals, schools and as a volunteer
instructor for the children’s fitness program at Frog’s
Gym in Encinitas, CA.
In the bodybuilding industry, Garrett’s
resume has grown as a spokesperson with
guest appearances, seminars, endorsements, modeling
and guest posings.
Known for his model looks and symmetrical
physique, Garrett’s complete presentation of sweeping,
poised muscularity epitomizes bodybuilding’s ideal healthy
role model.
Garrett continues to make global appearances
on behalf of Weider
Publications and in the past few years has distinguished
himself through his stage routines as having a flare
for comedic. In addition, he has taken his natural stage
presence to the arena of film and TV. He is most recently
known for appearing as a specially cast contestant on
the nationally syndicated game shows, "The Weakest Link"
and "Hollywood Squares."
Garrett is available as a
spokesperson, product representative, model, guest speaker,
guest poser OR
PERSONAL COACH.
