Despite his busy schedule, Garrett
makes "giving back" a priority. Professionally,
he was worked in psychiatric care for both adolescents
and adults - these are fields that can only be filled
by people who can give of themselves with endless patience.
So, for Garrett, contributing his time and talents freely
just comes naturally.
Giving back can mean attending fund
raisers that benefit causes such as scholarships for
African-American young people to attend college. Or,
it can mean giving up a weekend during which he would
make a paid appearance to make a celebrity appearance
at a benefit for the Challenged Athletes Foundation,
such as a recent all day "Spin-a-thon" held
in Encinitas, CA.

| Garrett has long been a volunteer for
the Governor's Fitness Council in California and for the
Inner City Games , Arnold Schwartzenegger's nationwide
program for Inner City Youth. He finds this program to
be a wonderful way to give back to young people using
his athletic knowledge as well as his ability to engage
a crowd in a program that inspires them to choose fitness
and education over drugs and the streets. |

Sometimes giving back simply means taking the extra
time with a fan, a young person or somebody just wanting
workout tips.
For his continued efforts in giving
back to the community, Garrett was awarded a Certificate
of Merit, from the IFBB, signed by Ben Weider, for community
service and for being an outstanding ambassador for
the sport Bodybuilding.

Garrett particularly
enjoys making appearances and doing things with "Team
Weider" such as a special appearance led by Shawn
Ray at the Police & Fire Games in Santa Ana. Shawn emceed
while several other athletes volunteered to contribute to
the event.
